Many California children experience health problems that impact school performance and general well-being due to poor nutrition and a lack of physical activity. These health issues can lead to lifelong health problems including diabetes and heart conditions. For many of the students plagued by inactivity and poor nutrition, the school is an ideal place to provide opportunities for safe and engaging physical activities and nutritious meals. The Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Project sought to address this connection between health and learning. The project was created to increase CTA member awareness and provide resources about what can be done in the classroom, at the school site, and with the district to improve the quality of life for all students and staff.
The resources collected as part of Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds continue to be available here as valuable tools for school based promotion of fitness and nutrition.
